The York School is an independent, co-ed, International Baccalaureate World School in midtown Toronto that offers the IB program from Junior Kindergarten (JK) to Grade 12. We offer four academic programs: the IB Primary Years Program (PYP), IB Middle Years Program (MYP) and IB Diploma Program (DP), and the York School’s own Personalized Pathway program. Our curriculum emphasizes inquiry and experiential learning, and empowers students to be globally-minded citizens.
The York School is an athletic school as well as an academic one. We offer 48 competitive teams – and between 65% and 70% of our students belong to at least one team. In the last four years, York teams have competed in 17 championships at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSSA). We’ve also enjoyed victories at the Conference of Independent Schools of Ontario Athletic Association (CISAA). Our physical education classes, athletic development programs and competitive teams prioritize teamwork, fair play, skill building and school spirit.
We believe a strong sense of belonging is essential for learning and personal growth. The staff and student leaders in our Student Life and Belonging team are passionate about building a culture of connection. They plan assemblies, awareness campaigns and spirit events – like contests and theme days – that foster engagement, relationship-building and fun. Our co-curricular clubs, spirit houses and athletic teams also build community and increase the feeling of belonging.
Our Student Wellbeing team helps students develop the social-emotional skills, mindset and strategies they need to succeed academically and thrive as their authentic selves. The team – which includes social workers, learning strategists and a registered nurse – is available to work with individual students and groups from JK to Grade 12, as well as parents and teachers. Individual attention, small class sizes and our focus on the whole child help us identify academic challenges and strengths so we can provide the support students need.
The Henson sisters, Sophia ‘23 and twins Delfina and Sol ‘25, played a pivotal role in putting The York School’s Varsity Girls Volleyball team on the provincial map.
