This past week 22 students from TYS Model UN (the largest club at York) travelled to New York City to participate in the 24th annual CMUNCE conference at Columbia University. Before the conference started, we were lucky enough to have front-row seats at the Broadway musical Aladdin. We also spent several hours taking in the beauty of the MET museum and a stroll through Central Park.
To begin our Model UN festivities we started at the United Nations headquarters and we were privileged enough to receive an in-depth tour. Throughout the sessions, students participated in rigorous debates,  deep discussions, and passed many directives on the wide range of topics. Committees included the World Health Organization, the Nairobi city council, Mythos: Pantheons at war, The election of 1992 and the US Senate. Students had the opportunity to meet, work with, and create new friendships with fellow delegates from all over the globe.

We want to give a big shoutout to our very own Model UN co-chair Jack M.A., who was rewarded with an honourable mention for his amazing work in the US Senate as Marco Rubio. We would like to thank the parents who helped us prepare for this trip, and a huge thank you to Ms. Gardner Ross and Ms. Bauld for making this trip a reality and being the reason that it was so amazing. It was truly a trip that we’ll never forget.
