  Struan Robertson 

  Bio

  Struan brings 20 years of experience in the independent and international school systems in his role as Head of School. Prior to York, Struan served as Head of School at Lakefield College School in Ontario and as an Elementary School Principal at International School Bangkok in Thailand. 

  
  

  Struan has a Masters from the State University of New York (SUNY), a B.Ed. from the University of Windsor and a BA from Dalhousie University.

  Justin Medved 

  Bio

  Justin comes to the York School with almost two decades of independent and international school experience. Having taught in the UK, Africa and Asia Justin is connected to a global network of 21st century educators and thought leaders. As Google Certified Teacher, Apple Distinguished Educator, Co-founder of Cohort 21 and the CAIS Strategic Change Accelerator Justin is on the pulse of the global Learning & Innovation landscape. Armed with a Master of Arts in Educational Technology Justin keeps an eye on the future to ensure that York School classrooms remain connected to the ideas, tools and opportunities that are happening beyond them.

  Justin has a B.A. in Geography, BPHE, B.Ed., and a M.A - Masters of Educational Technology.

  Elissa Kline-Beber 

  Bio

  Elissa Kline-Beber is a clinical social worker with 25 years of experience working with children and families. Elissa received her BSW at McGill University and her MSW at the University of Toronto. Elissa has trained in a range of therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Narrative Therapy. Prior to beginning at The York School in 2010, Elissa counselled young people in a variety of settings including Sick Kids Hospital, the TDSB and in her private practice.

  Sara Sankari 

  Bio

  Sara joins the York School with a record of over 15 years in the realm of international education, she brings a wealth of expertise and a global perspective to our school community.

  
  A graduate of the American University of Beirut, her  journey in education began in the classroom, where she honed her skills as a primary-trained teacher, guiding young minds across Grades 1 to 7. Throughout her career, she has worn multiple hats, each one a testament to her unwavering commitment to educational excellence. She has seamlessly transitioned from being a dedicated Math Coach to a proficient PYP Coordinator, contributing significantly to the development of a dynamic curriculum. Her dedication to educational progress led her to assume the role of a PYP inspector and workshop leader, further deepening her understanding of effective teaching methodologies. Subsequently, she took the position of Associate Head of Lower School and, most recently, served as the Head of Lower School at the prestigious Dwight School in Dubai.

  Helen Gin 

  Bio

  Helen Gin joined the York School faculty in 1992 after teaching overseas in IB international schools in Japan and Belgium. In 2009, Helen was appointed the Vice-Principal overseeing the IB Middle Years and Diploma Programme curriculum, as well as faculty development.

  
  

  Helen received her B.A./BPHE at Queen's University, B.Ed. at OISE University of Toronto, and MEd at Western University. She is a graduate of the Canadian Accredited Independent Schools Leadership Institute, holds her principal's qualifications from OISE and has been trained as an IB consultant/workshop leader/site visitor.

  Kathryn Barnes 

  Bio

  Kathryn Barnes is an experienced K -12 educational leader. With two decades of experience working in Independent Schools, she has a proven track record of demonstrated leadership excellence in transforming school practices while advocating for inclusive education for the whole child.  Skilled in the areas of curriculum and policy development, learning analytics, and teacher professional development, Kathryn often collaborates with a range of educational associations in Canada and globally (including the Canadian Accredited Independent Schools and the International Boys’ School Coalition); lending her expertise to assist in advancing professional learning and research in the areas of learning, wellbeing and student support. 

  
  

  As a lifelong learner Kathryn holds a B.Kin, B.Ed and a Master of Education (MEd) in Educational Leadership and Policy development from the University of Toronto – Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) and is a special education specialist with additional qualifications in supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Behavioral challenge. She completed her Instructional Leadership Certificate with Harvard's Graduate School of Education and is completing her certificate in School Management and Leadership from Havard’s Business School.

  Hailey Meslin 

  Bio

  Hailey has more than two decades of experience working on the operational side of large not-for-profit organizations, which she brings to her role overseeing York’s Admissions, Marketing, and Advancement departments. Prior to York, Hailey held the positions of VP, Philanthropy and VP, Campaign at Sinai Health Foundation.

   

  Hailey earned her B.A. from McGill University and her M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Cambridge.

  Janet MacMillan 

  Bio

  Janet MacMillan is a CPA, CMA and a graduate of Queen’s University.  With over 15 years of experience, Janet began her career in education administration at Crescent School holding increasingly responsible positions in the Business Office.  Immediately prior to joining The York School in 2018, Janet was the Director of Finance at The University of St. Michael's College at the University of Toronto. Janet enjoys the dynamic, innovative and collaborative culture at The York School.
