Welcome to the Middle School. The York School is an innovative and inviting place for young people to learn and grow. The Middle School honours the physical, social, emotional and academic development of students aged 11-14. As Principal, I am committed to ensuring every aspect of the Middle School embodies our mission statement: 'To nurture curious learners to become globally minded leaders with integrity and purpose.'
Middle School marks a fundamental transition in a student’s life where independence and individuality advance. It is important that the student experience during this vital period is guided by dedicated faculty and innovative programming that support each student’s development, so they acquire the confidence to meet the challenges of independent and collaborative learning in an international and technologically-rich context. At the Middle School, an experienced team of teachers, guidance counselors, learning specialists and administrators work together to support the educational needs and emotional wellness of all our students.
The pursuit of academic excellence will remain a central focus of the Middle School through the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (MYP) curriculum. Students will have many opportunities to extend their learning outside the classroom with our robust outdoor education programme and many hands-on field trips and excursions. As well, a well-rounded student life is present through a variety of opportunities in the arts, athletics, clubs, activities and student leadership to ensure our students are engaged and involved citizens of The York School community and beyond.
I invite you to explore our approach to Middle School – it is an exemplary one, and we are excited to share it with you.
