Grade 12 student Tony Song gives TEDx talk about AI’s Future

Tony Song ‘25 shared his insights about artificial intelligence (AI) during a talk he gave at a TEDx event hosted by Lakefield College School in October. He was one of nine student presenters (the others were from Lakefield and University of Toronto Schools) selected to spark audience members’ curiosity and inspire them to be change-makers.
“A lot of people here are worried about the future of AI. It’s been a massive change-maker and will continue to be one,” Tony told the audience. But, as he went on to explain, the integrity of AI poses a danger to itself through flawed recursive learning patterns - similar to how the game of Broken Telephone distorts the sender’s original message. Tony concluded that this flaw in how AI learns, gives us - the humans who use AI - an opportunity to keep it on track by being good digital citizens.

Tony would love to organize a TEDx event at TYS in the future so other students can have the same opportunity he did. “Two of York’s strengths are debate and public speaking and I know a lot of my friends would love to participate,” he says.
